Bloom head about 1 inch long. My 3 yr old called it a "fire plant" because it was so bright in the sun. :) The needles are soft, spiky, succulent leaves around 1/2-3-/4 inch in length.
Fire plant is probably as good as any for this beauty. Sadly, despite being widely grown in temperate regions in the world, it is classed as extinct in the wild in its native Canary Islands. This looks like the species but there are a couple of hybrids with anothe closely related and similar Lotus species, which looks very similar too, so it could be that.
