Spotting

Description:

This is a tortoise beetle larvae (Cassidinae). Really strange. This is my first time finding one. It has a defense mecanism where the "tail" or apendix protects the body when threatened

Great spotting, Miguel. That tail is built with the larva's feaces. According to Prof. Dr. Zundir, a brazilian expert in tortoise beetles, that mechanism increases the protection of the larva against predatory wasps up to 70%!!!
