Description:

This butterfly is found from Africa, southern Europe, India, Sri Lanka and Australian regions. It is the smallest butterfly species in the island and is purplish brown on the upper side. There are marked indistinct tornal spots. the hind wing has a sub terminal series of round black spots crowned with pale ochraceous. The underside is light brown and speckled with four distinctive orange crowned black spots on the tornus of the hind wing. The female is similar as the male. Habitat:

It is a common butterfly found in the dry and intermediate zones below 1000 feet low elevations.Its habitat is open fields with short grass or herbs. It is an active butterfly but has a weak flight. They are usually encountered in groups. It flies at the ground level and frequently settles down to nectar on small flowers. It basks in the mornings, with its wings partially open.
