Gonepteryx rhamni
A species of butterfly of remarkable dimensions that has a length of the front wing edge of about 28-34 mm and can reach a wingspan of 70 mm. In the adult phase, the butterflies have veined wings in the form of a leaf. Females have a greenish-yellowish-white hue that differs significantly from the male. These have brighter greenish and sulfur yellow wings, with a small orange spot in the cell of both wings. They both have a small reddish-orange spot on the front and rear wings. The body is blackish and covered by a thick down that faithfully repeats the color of the wings.
Pine forest next to the Mediterranean Sea. Open wooded areas with scrub and some humidity. Wet rocky slopes with herbaceous vegetation. Forests, hedges, parks and gardens.
A master of disguise: It intermingles between the leaves of various plants. Due to its particular shape of the wings, the greenish color and being static with the wings folded, it goes completely unnoticed.
