Libellula depressa

Description:

This is a short and stocky dragonfly, about 4 cm in length, with a broad, flattened abdomen and very dark wing bases. Presented here is the male, recognized by blue pruinescence on the abdomen with yellow spots along the segment sides.

Habitat:

This is a common and widespread European species, found around ponds and other water bodies - here, in a small artificial pond in pre-Alps.
