You know, I saw a spotting of this kind of gall from someone else and went out to see if I could find one. It was late in the season, so mine's kind of beat up ... but I found one. I had seen goldenrod clumped up like that before, but I didn't know why.

Yes, inside, right at the base where the leaves start clumping up.
