Rüppell's Starling

Lamprotornis purpuropterus

Description:

Also known as Rüppell's Glossy-starling or Rüppell's long-tailed starling, this is a large, about 30 cm long, dark blue and glossy starling with a long and graduated tail. Less iridescent than some other species, it also sports a pale eye and a dark blue ear patch.

Habitat:

Endemic to NE Africa, it inhabits open woodlands, but also human habitations and old cultivated fields. Here, observed in Awasa, in a wooded area around the Awasa lake and on outskirts of Awasa township.
