Oak gall wasp

Hymenoptera: Cynipidae

Description:

Parasitoids wasp of oaks, lays eggs in the leaves and a hall forms around it, making a living space and nutritional source for the developing larvae. They have a number a hyper parasitoid as well.

Habitat:

Oaks, Quercus sp.

Notes:

Collect ones without holes and keep in a jar. Eventually the parasitoid wasp or hyperparasitoid adult wasp will emerge. Filbertworm (Cydia latiferreana) also feeds on the galls.
