Spotting

Description:

Bored wood in spiral and curved patterns. I believe a Wood-boring Beetle caused this.

Habitat:

I believe this was an oak tree that has been dead for a long time. This was at about 7000 ft elevation at Camp Mataguay.

Hi Lauren, it definitely could be. There was another downed tree nearby that didn't have a pattern like this. Could have been a different type of tree. Unfortunately when I saw it, I hadn't discovered PN yet.

This doesn't look like beetle damage to me. It kind of looks just natural.

Hi Emma, thank you for the link! I've never gone bird watching before and was wondering where good places were around here :)
