Orange Palm Dart (female)

Cephrenes augiades

Description:

Wingspan about 3cm. Orange head and legs, orange-tipped antennae and a purple and yellow striped furry abdomen. Dark brown wings with orange spots and edges; underside is a rosy red-orange with a purple blush.

Notes:

This skipper was resting on the leaf of a hibiscus in my father-in-law's garden. The colours are quite remarkable. Thanks to JeffCrocombe for the ID.

Pretty sure its an Orange Palm Dart Cephrenes augiades which has some variability - the female upper being much darker than the male & also existing as a dark form which is almost unmarked on its upper wing. You can see my photo of the dark form at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/143...

Thanks Rajash, but I'm not convinced that's correct - it doesn't look anything like the ones here: http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au...
Argybee, I looked at that, but I'm not sure... can't find anything that looks like this colouring.
