Early Blue Violet

Viola palmata

The flower looks like most purple violet flowers, but the leaves were quite distinctive. They had a main lobe near the tip of the leaf with smaller lobes near the bottom. Also growing near some other violet species with the classic heart-shaped leaves typical of violets.

Hardwood forest near a stream in wet soil and lots of fallen leaves. Surrounding were many wood sorrel plants (Oxalis)
