Description:

Has many leafy shoots 0.75-2 m tall.it has the ability to take over an area. It also is deciduous meaning that it annually loses its foliage after flowering and lays dormant for about 3 months

Habitat:

Common in disturbed habitats such as mesic shaded areas (Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Moloka‘i, Lana‘i, Maui) (Wagner et al. 1990:1623–1624).

Notes:

Hawaiian Name is the ‘Awapuhi Can be used for shampoo or medicinal purposes. Cultural Uses: For cooking (leaves wrapped and flavored meat), drinking and to make something smell better.
