Purple Panus

Description:

They start out a deep purple color and fade to pale brown as they age, eventually becoming a cream color after they dry up. Fuzzy caps and stipe, decurrent gills, off-center stipe.

Habitat:

They were covering much of the stump and above-ground roots of a dead sweetgum tree.

Thanks Neil. Such a cool and common mushroom, but I rarely find them young enough to see the purple coloration.

Photo number 4 and I was going to scream ((( Black Snake ))), but alas, I was tricked. Well played. I love this spotting, Machi. A beautiful series of these mushrooms. Some of those rocks loo like calcite too. People would pay for that!
