Artic fox

Alopex lagopus

Description:

Artic Fox. Artic Foxes have beautiful white coats that act as very effective winter camouflage. When the seasons change, their coats turn a brown or gray in appearance. The change in the coloring of their coats enables them to effectively hunt rodents, birds, and fish. They also eat leftover scraps from kills by other animals. They also eat vegetables when available. Artic foxes can survive frigid Artic temperatures as low as -58F degrees living in burrows and can also tunnel into the snow to create shelter.

Habitat:

This artic fox lives at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Maryland
