Aeshnidae sp.
Brown & green, very large nymph (3.3cm), huge compound eyes, short antennae. Typical "T-shaped" mouth. Molt into the large, bright blue darner.
Aeshnidae are common in ponds, edges of shallow lakes, and lentic sections of streams. They spend most of their time clinging to sticks or aquatic vegetation near the surface.
They are generalist predators, capturing pretty much any prey they can grab. Aeshnidae are moderately pollution tolerant. This specimen was collected from the garden pond at our high school.
