Kī

Description:

The Kī plant is a very small tree, only growing to be about 2 - 5 feet. It comes in many varieties, and colors including purple, and green, as seen in the picture. The trunk is very thin, and it has long and wide leaves. Those trees with green leaves will have their leaves turn yellow and then brown over time, until they are dead. The trees with purple leaves will turn directly brown until they die altogether. It produces no fruit, and no flower.

Habitat:

Kī plant is is native to ancient Hawaii, and this one was found in Kahaluu, on Oahu.

Notes:

Kī plants have many uses, and were used for many things including using the leaves for rapping food in order to preserve it, make rain coats using the waterproof leaves, etc. It is also known as Ti throughout Polynesia.
