Neuroterus numismalis
These are Silk Button Galls and are produced by the Gall Wasp, Neuroterus numismalis and are the asexual generation of the wasp. This Silk button spangle gall has a cover of golden hairs that give the impression of silk thread. The 0.3 cm button-shaped galls have a pronounced concavity and sit tightly against the leaf lamina.
More info to follow this evening!

Thanks Sckel :)
Very cool, staccyh. Had never seen it. Now appearing Related spottings. Sometimes, looking for an ID like crazy, then discovers that other people, here in the project, have the same thing as you.
Thanks ChiefRedEarth!
You're welcome! I feel the same way, learn something every time I'm on PN.

Hi, staccyh. I googled around a bit and found a photo on a blog that looks just like yours ... lucky shot. The writer said these are Silk Button Galls and are produced by the Gall Wasp, Neuroterus numismalis. Here's the link, scroll way down: http://stephens-views.blogspot.com/2009_.... And once you know what you're looking for, there are lots of other photos online. Really interesting!
It looks similar to how fern spores are attached to the plant.
Yep its pretty cool :) I'm not sure what it could be, maybe seeds?
That is amazing! I've never seen anything like that before.
