Pale-winged Starling

Onychognathus nabouroup

Description:

Predominantly black and slightly glossy (less glossy than its cousins, Lamprotornis starlings, I had the impression) starling, of a typical size for the family. Key ID features when perched (like here) are yellow-orange eyes and chestnut or rufous edges on folded wings. In flight, the ID is even easier, as the large white patches on primaries are conspicious.

Habitat:

This is a common bird of arid rocky terrains, whose distribution is confined to western parts of Southern Africa. This spotting is the compilation of four different ones, but always observed in rural areas, dry and rocky terrains, with some trees around, in a form of open woodlands.
