It may have been a pet to someone as we caught this pic off a dirt road towards a pond on someone's land. Around here ducks seem to come and go and this guy was a rare sight for us.

They're fairly docile. Doubt his small mouth could even wrap around skin enough to bite.
They grow in large clusters up to three feet high. The flowers are no larger than 2cm diameter.
Added some next day shots with gills.
She was. I've found several nesting females this spring. She and the nest were left undisturbed.
I would agree on that. They seem to be fairly common around here
I didn't disturb this lil guy at all. I took the pic from a distance and walked away.
