It is a cerambycine, probably of the tribe Cerambycini.

Not beetles but true bugs, order Heteroptera. Possibly stink bugs, family Pentatomidae.
I may have found it. Check out Cranistus colliurides Stål. It belongs to the same tribe as Phyllopalpus and Phyllocyrtus and seems to match your specimen and locality. see:

Chrysomelidae: Chrysomelinae. This looks almost identical to the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata. Although it has been introduced into many parts of the world, South Africa doesn't seem to be one of those areas. Perhaps you should check with your local agricultural officials.
