I believe this is a subspecies of clover. There are hundreds of variety of clover throughout the world, some are used for farming / livestock feed, others are wild and many cultivar are distributed worldwide for garden/herbal uses. The stem coloration is what gives this away as a defined subspecies that has the distinct purple coloration.

Thank you all! I really love sitting and watching them open when having my coffee in the morning. It's so cool watching them open right before my eyes. (this one was a 33 minute lapse, 222 frames, 1 frame every ten seconds boiled down to a 25frames per second video)

Added a time lapse video of the water lily opening. Hope you all enjoy, it's my first attempt at something like this, and I realized after that I should have turned off the IS function on my lens. Let me know what you think. :-)

Thank you all! This is an amazing thing to have been able to spend the time to witness. If you ever get the chance to sit and just watch for a while you will see some amazing things happening in nature.

I would contact a local wildlife rehabilitation center and see if they will take in this little turtle. They have methods of cleaning and repairing the crack in the shell so that the turtle can be released back to the wild. :-) Great spotting and very glad your grandma took the time to get this one to safety!

Thank you Christy! I am working on my flight photographing technique and these guys are perfect for it. While the images aren't perfection, they still came out better than I had hoped for a first round. :-)

Karen, I think they'll still be there. :-) Once they find a save haven, and food sources very close together they will generally stick within that area. Can't wait to see the photos you get from the trail camera! (btw, that little Bogie is cute as all heck)!
