Looks like a Yellow-rumped Warbler. Note the wing bars not seen on Virginia's Warblers.
Looks like a European Starling.
Perhaps a Crested Lark?

I believe its name is "California Alligator Lizard" but I could be wrong.
What are you seeing in this bird that points away from CATO?
I'm confident it's a California Towhee. Birds give calls and songs which sound totally different so you might have heard one or the other. Here's a photo of a California Towhee in case you don't know what I'm talking about http://www.birdzilla.com/components/com_...
Also the orange callr you're see in is the tan I brlieve. Brandt's only have that blue throat when they are in peek breeding plumage and even then it is hard to see. This bird is in non-breeding plumage.
