I have a rarely matched passion for all things “snake” but you will be able to guess that from my spottings. :)

Nice find! This snake is a juvenile Eastern Yellow-bellied Racer (Coluber constrictor flaviventris) and not a bullsnake. When juveniles, racers are boldly patterned like this one but will lose their pattern entirely in 2-3 years.

Great snake! This is actually an Eastern Yellow-bellied Racer (we don't have rough greensnakes in Colorado :) ).

This snake is neither a cottonmouth or a yellow-bellied water snake. It is a Diamond-backed Watersnake - Nerodia rhombifer.

Great Spotting!

Great find! Do you mind if I use this spotting to promote the Center for Snake Conservation's mission and upcoming Snake Count?

Our mission is the Snakes of the United States: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1202...

Thanks! Cameron

Cameron Young-CSC Snake Banded Water Snake

Hi Rick,

This snake is actually a Banded Watersnake - Nerodia fasciata. They can be melanistic which can make it a confusing ID. The headshape and dark eyestripe - barely visible give it away though.

Thanks! Cameron
