The "agressive rasping call" is a definite identifier. I see and here these guys all around my house very often.
How did you narrow down the species? I can't seem to find anything definitive to identify one I found.

Yeah, there are so many similar looking species in Florida.
I don't know much about turtles, but that looks like a lot of other turtles that have been identified as Florida Red-bellied Cooters.
