A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
The name Bare Nosed Wombat was introduced by the Founder of the Wombat Protection Society because it was felt that the Common Wombat was no longer common. There is no documentation as far as I know. However, the change in name has been widely accepted by the academic community, Authorities and the broader community. The title has been used at the National Wombat Conferences held in Albury and Penrith and the Mange Conferences held in Canberra.
Unfortunately it is becoming less and less common, hense the move by those of us working to help the wombat to have its common name changed to the Bare Nosed Wombat. This also puts it more and more in line withe Hairy Nosed Wombats
You are correct that it is two wombat but they are less than 10 metres apart and are orphans just prior to release .
This is a Bare Nosed Wombat that does not naturally occur at Maroochydore. Where were these photos taken?
A mother wombat and joey
yes Wombat are very intelligent and very curious. Provided they do not feel threatened they will investigate new things.
