I agree with Keith - I think it's a young mulberry tree!
Nice first spotting!
Hey Ryan! It's Miss B. Try putting up each picture as a different spotting to help get them identified!
I can tell you that the first one is an old Sulphur Shelf fungus. I posted the three last ones on our Math vs. Wild account - hopefully we'll figure out what they are soon!
Thank you so much, Brian! We appreciate your help!
Thank you so much, Scott!
Added photos to show how much this has grown in a few days!
Brandon, your thoughts led me to an answer.....it is not a phlox, but another plant that looks quite similar - the dame's rocket. Thanks for the tip that helped our research!
Thank you, Scott! We had an old field guide that suggested this plant grew in our lab - now we know what they were referencing!
Thanks for the comments! Just have to correct you though, Orbem......that's me, a female teacher, holding the turtle ;) I worked as a director at an outdoor education center for many years before becoming a teacher and worked with many herps during my time there. Thanks for the info - I'll share that with my students!
I'm used to the tiny multi-flora rose that grow around here ;)
