Not a brown recluse. More likely a Woodlouse spider. There are no Brown Recluse spiders on the west coast.

That's POKE WEED! When less than 8 inches tall, it's edible, and delicious, BUT you need to leach it first. Otherwise TOXIC!

I grew up eating it. :)

This is what I like about this particular area of Texas.... The Bio-diversity! We have Coral snakes Eastern Coachwhips, Copperheads, and about 20 miles east of my home, Alligators, and Cottonmouths. All from the eastern U.S.

THEN we have Bark Scorpions, Western Diamondbacks, Brown Tarantulas, Rhinochelius (Long-nosed snakes), Western Hog-Nose snakes, Western Massasaugas, Black tailed rattlers, Tortoises, Pepsis wasps, etc. All from the western U.S.

NICE! Our local Coachwhips are closer to all white, than tan. (Marble Falls TX.)
