A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I'm thinking that is a California Slender...Batrachoseps attenuatus. But it could be a Reticulated slender based on its location. I love salamanders, but soooo many of them only have slight variations between species.
Why in the H@#L are you holding a scorpion?!?!!? HAHAHA! I lived in Vegas for 7 years and these are a real annoying pest that can do some damage.
I gotta head out to Gray Lodge and take my kids hiking once this 109 heat goes away.
that's the guy! Thanks buddy!
Sorry for the crappy pic. They don't sit still enough to take a good full body photo. There are three of them that inhabit my Northern California back yard and enjoy eating my cherries. So you are probably correct as to the fledgling. The body is that dusty grey with white then black tipped wing feathers.
Audrey...here's what you do...have a red wood tree fall down in your yard...cut it into logs...stack up somewhere in leaf litter that gets adequate watering...in a while you should have some homesteaders in there.
That's how I got these pics. Haha!
Don't forget to add this to http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/2103...
nicely done!
The experience of a life time!
Yes...you are correct that it is a captive animal. At the school where I teach this beautiful creature is our deterrent for seagulls. After lunch there is often a large amount of trash left over and this "Hawk" comes to fly around and keep the seagulls away. By the way...our mascot is a Falcon...so that's why I assumed it was a falcon.
Very surreal. I did not know that such a creature existed. This looks almost mechanical - man made even -and is one of the many wonders that South America holds. Great shot!
