A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I know robins can lay a couple of clutches each season, and I've read somewhere that sometimes they may reuse the same nest in the same summer. Has anyone ever seen this?
Spotted this going on two years ago...anyone know what kind of weevil this is?
Just realized I misidentified this caterpillar. I think it's a black swallowtail...can anyone confirm?
So I think this might be a tree gall. Does anyone know a lot about these?
So, I'm thinking these are woodpecker holes, who bored holes in this tree to get at the termites inside it (the smaller holes). I study monkeys, so my expertise on insects and birds is minimal.
The tree does have leaves on it, so the tree is still alive...for now. The closest limb was high up and the leaves weren't all the way up so I couldn't tell what kind of tree it was.
Added, thanks for reminding me! Any idea what made all these holes?
Anyone spot eggs in your local robin's nests yet? Spring got off to a late start this year!
Thanks for the ID! I thought it was a finch. Shows you how much I know about birds. The beak reminded me of Darwin's finches.
