Thank you for the information, S Frazier! I did not know that they needed to be separate observations. Also, thanks for the clarification re: brooding behavior. Sorry about the mixup!

Good evening, Extremebirder! Thank you for your recent submissions. If you don't mind, I would like to restrict entries submitted to the "Camp Simpson Biological Survey" mission to pictures taken within the confines of the Boy Scout camp in Johnston County. This is part of an ongoing effort to document the flora and fauna of the camp. If you live in the Tulsa area, you are only a couple of hours away! Call the ranger in advance and come visit sometime. There is a ton of photo opportunities. I would love the input form a birder! Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words, Cindy. The date is correct THIS YEAR! Next year ??? Depends on winter temperatures and precipitation. I look from mid-February to mid-April.

More closely related to portulaca than mallow. To me, mallows have a "fuller" petal. Colors are quite similar, though!

I found one of these with a white/blue/clear coloration along Rio Madre de Dios, along the border between Peru and Bolivia. It appears to be a gastropod, and not a caterpillar. Other than that, I can't really help you. Your photo is GORGEOUS, though!!!

This little guy is completely harmless, Christine. Jumping spiders are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. They look like muppets!
