It's a cicada molt shell. The insect is no longer there. :)

Could be a juvenile of what Jellis suggested.

Been busy with studies lately but since it's Christmas break here, might as well. :)

Yup, looks like a species of Magnolia to me as well. Star Apple has a much thinner/ flatter and softer leaves than the Magnolias.
