A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Isn't it amazing to see similar looking insects 1/2 way around the world?
Thanks, it would have been interesting to see a live one back when they roamed the Island. Makes me wonder how fast they could run, since the Ostriches which are still around run quite fast.
Some Wild-life photographers that visit the Island regularly are able to photograph them in the wild. The Fossa eat lemurs and other small creatures.
Yes, it looks like it knows its way around the forests and knows where the food is located. It comes fully equipped as a predator.
Wikipedia covers the hoverfly's function from the larval stage where some eat ahpids and some of adult do pollinate, but mostly they eat the pollen. Your question prompted my search for what they actually do. They sure are curious insects watching carefully as I watch them. Great picture!
Amazing! I never have heard of them.
I think the color is a blue. It gets into the folded wing position so fast that in a few other photo's I see a light blue. The photos are backed up on the hard drive right now and I will have to search. MediyansyahTaharani :)
The Parc National's in the North East are very good I hear. That would be Nosy Be to Sambava or Antananarivo to Sambava and up towards Andapa.
Travel companies arrange trips and if you are coming in a group that may be the way to go. Night trips would be interesting. Advice from anyone else?
You have one cool insect there!
I just checked out your pic AshleyAkers and it does look similar. I was looking on BigGuide.com and the Hairstreaks look both like yours as well in form.
I'm just trying to help:)
BugGuide.com is helpful for many insects.
