JudyCrawford Orange Crowned Warbler
Orange Crowned Warbler commented on by JudyCrawford Arizona, USA9 years ago

I changed the scientific name to lutescens, which is the brighter yellow western species of the Orange Crowned Warbler.

A quote from the Cornell Lab, All About Birds: "The Pacific Coast form, lutescens, is the brightest yellow. Found throughout the Rocky Mountains and Great Basin,"

I'm going with the Orange crowned Warbler. They have a more distinct eye ring like this guy.

JudyCrawford Sharp Shinned Hawk
Sharp Shinned Hawk commented on by JudyCrawford Arizona, USA9 years ago

Actually, it got lured in by all the quail, dove and other yard birds at the feeders. Didn't get a meal, but stayed for a drink and a bath. How many people get to watch a hawk take a bath in the wild?

Lovely snake. If you read my post, you probably can tell I'm partial to the snakes of the AZ desert.

JudyCrawford Sacred Datura
Sacred Datura commented on by JudyCrawford Tucson, Arizona, USA9 years ago

We only see Datura flowers here in Quartzsite, AZ if there has been quite a bit of rain. Maybe Tucson received more rain this year than we did.

The Native Americans often used the Sacred Datura in their rituals... very carefully. Is it really blooming there now?
