Yes, I believe so. I saw him when I was running on the road and it was alive and well (moving slowly and sticking it's tongue out). By the time I went back with the camera and my kids 15 minutes later it looked like it was just hit by a car.

Thanks! I would like to look some of the scientific names and general info and add it. We went to Rocky Mountain National Park last Sunday and the best part of the day was spent following a herd of elk for several hours, it was wonderful to watch their behaviors and hear them bugling etc.
