Janson - hasnt Loop Road been closed for several years? I drive around in a mini cooper so not much chance of coping with the potholes on that road unfortunately.

In my arms of course Karen! Only kidding, I always have a snake hook in my car for such occasions and given that this guy was coiled in the centre of a moderately busy road I am very glad I had it with me to move it quickly to safety.

Thanks for comments - S Frazier the habitat in the shot is a gravel road which the snake was crossing on a rainy, wet spring afternoon.

Definitely not a viper, this is a water snake (Nerodia sp.) though I am not 100% of the exact species.
