You've got a male wood duck there. We have tons of them in Chicago. I absolutely love them. So pretty... but they make the most ridiculous noise. :)
Hey Liam, thanks for the suggestion, but it was like two or three times as big as a sparrow. It was a good sized bird.
Chicago is having a *ridiculous* Red Admiral population explosion. I'm used to seeing them around the Lincoln Park ponds or the lake front bird sanctuaries, but lately I've seen them in the construction zone on Congress and the neighborhood I work in which has almost no trees and certainly no flowers! They've been making the news on Channel 7 and 2. :)
It's clearly a damselfly, but I have no idea which one. Great photo!
I agree with Donna. :)
Goody, thanks for the help with the species ID. :)
Thank you! I'm waiting for the butterflies to come out up here in Chicago now, but it could easily be another three or four weeks before that even starts. It's fun seeing the big ones early when I'm down south. :)
@David Ah! You must be another Chicago local. :) I'm hoping that if the nuthatches are starting to show up that all the warblers won't be far behind. :) The North pond was an *awesome* place for migratory birds last year. :)
