Face is not round enough for an owl. Medium sized hawk maybe a broadwing.

I agree it's called a white moth and they lay their eggs at the base of squash and other vine plants. The grubs that hatch eat the stem from the inside making it all mushy. A fine netting covering the bottom 8-10 inches of vine to the ground will be sufficient to save the plants.
