A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Zookeeper, wanderer, and a person people call when they find orphaned or injured wildlife. Enjoying learning about what's in my backyard.
I added two more pictures that may help. I didn't look to me what I've always heard called a dirt dauber, but that doesn't mean much. It's relatively small. Someone said they thought it had just stung or bit them and we were trying to decide what exactly it was. It has a very fly like head.
My guess is this is some sort of baby flying fish. It was tiny, maybe an inch long. It also seemed to have a stinger rather than a regular tail fin, hard to see in the pictures.
It's hard to tell in the pictures, but it definitely had red eyes. I made sure to check. Thanks for the info though!
Unfortunately this is the only picture I took. They made a strange noise when they flew short distances. I wasn't sure if it was from air moving through their wings or a vocalization.
We are trying to reunite him with mom. He was found in a ceiling. We think he mazed through the duct work. We know about where the nest is, it's just a matter of getting her to take notice and finding a safe place for him to be. He's a little adventurous but can't quite fly yet.
Thanks! I like your drop bear profile pic :)
Actually I think this is a mock strawberry. Yellow blooms.
That's what I was looking for. Thanks! I thought it was wild strawberry but looked different than what I remembered.
That was my gut but I'm not super familiar with many types of bats.
