A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I am an avid birder. I live in AZ and travel as much as I am able to to see migrations. Wildlife is the reason I like hiking. :)
AZ
Sign In to followIF you can find one nesting- they hold very very still for you. She had her back to me, I left and when I came back thru she was readjusting. Total luck- and a tripod. :)
Killdeer are larger and lankier than Semipalmated and Wilson's plovers; the double breast band distinguishes adult Killdeer from these two species (and all other plovers). However, juvenile Killdeer have only one breast band and are often confused with these two species. Be sure to watch for signs of downy plumage, and look for the Killdeer to have pinkish legs and an all-black bill.
Thank you. Honestly, I almost missed him. I barely got the shutter tripped and he took off. I would have preferred a less sloppy photo, but at least I got it. I was trying to be more aware for alligators at the time.
Also- it is hard to see but the tail looks to be a bit small for a common. Its a Grackle for sure ;)
I was vascillating between the two, but- they can be there (Ive seen them) and take a look at the eye. The great-tailed are a little yellower.
Thanks! I laid down in a bird blind foreverrrrr for this lil guy.
I avoided the 7 sitting on the wild boar below him. ;)
