A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I found one too! So bizarre.

It's not a praying mantis. Its in the order Phasmatodea (walking sticks) but it is not Diapheromera femorata. Maybe Anisomorpha buprestoides or something related?

I had taken this a few years ago with my old camera, but i think I have some that show the features a little better. I will add them!
Hmm you might be right. I think that looks like that genus, I had collected some Corydalus cornutus from the same location the following year but they look different than this one. I will upload a dorsal view!
Sure I will do that :)
Thank you dandoucette! I was just at the ESO-ESC conference this week, and heard about the site during one of the presentations. I plan on adding quite a few more insects and wildlife soon :)
I second the I.D. by KeithRoragen. It's not a beetle or a cockroach its a giant water bug.
The photo is blurry but it appears to be an assasin bug (Reduviidae), but I don't know the species

If you found it indoors it could be a masked bed bug hunter (just the name, doesn't mean you have bed bugs!) - Reduvius personatus
