It sounds like you were guided in the right direction. This lizard appears to be a juvenile male Five Lined Skink.

I agree with Reza. It looks like a Velvet Ant. It's actually a member of the wasp family.

Looks like a Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis). http://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_anole. Nice spotting!
