hm yeah I really have no way of knowing, like most other IDs just relying on photos can be difficult. Especially when using an iPhone camera -____-

Psilo Crane Fly
Crane Fly commented on by Psilo Maryland, USA12 years ago

It looks like the back of a crane fly. I spotted one awhile ago! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/924... They are sometimes called Mosquito Hawks either because they feed on mosquitos or they resemble a large version of a mosquito. Thank god this guy isn't a mosquito, I probably would not walk outside without a bug net and completely dripping in bugspray. :)

@Nopayahnah, one of the many reasons they're so beautiful to me and my family!
@MayraSpringmann, Thanks!

I really hope it helped and I was able to save him if not I guess that's life but he was quite precious. They were all gone this afternoon so I believe they were fledglings almost ready to fly.

The leaves and colors very much resemble the yellow violet but there are way too many petals (only 3 but still!) and they're not in the correct formation. Maybe you could look into some look-alikes of the flower. :) nice shot!

Beautiful flower! I might be able to help with an ID if you could tell me is it a tree or bush? I need to know where to look :)

Psilo Texas lantana
Texas lantana commented on by Psilo Texas, USA12 years ago

Seema is right, it is a lantana. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lantana.
Interesting thing about your spotting in combination with your location is, it's actually considered an invasive species in my state of Florida as well as in your state, Texas. Not to suggest you uproot it or harm any of them but if landscaping maybe plan to use another, more endangered species. :) nice spotting though!

Amazing photo quality. It's weird to say but they're almost sort of... cute. I definitely appreciate the spotting! Thank you!

WOW thats so cool I've never seen anything like that on this side of the world, maybe the gum tree pokey cones but nothing so green and malicious looking. Great photo!
