Wow! Very cool looking plant!! :) I don't know what kind of plants are in your area of the world but this looks to me like something that might be in the Matalea genus. Maybe you should check it out to see if anything looks right to you?

When I was a kid, I caught one and let it slide all over my arm. I broke out worse than poison ivy. OUCH! Did this one sting you?

Kind of looks like some kind of banana slug, Hema :) There are some big native slugs on the west coast. That spot on the side of the mantle looks kind of like a pneumostome to me. ???
