I find this stuff a lot in Grand Rapids
These look more like old glistening inky caps, I've seen a ton of them all over my neighborhood in various stages of development.
Could be Phellinus gilvus, a common tree pathogen I've found frequently growing on stumps and occasionally growing out of the ground on tree roots.
Looks just like the Coprinellus micaceus I've been finding all over the place. They look very different when they are more mature of this.
I think I found the same species recently. Seems to have many common names.
Very nice, have you eaten them before?
