Thank you "ForestDragon" for setting me straight on this mantis. It's a Stagmomantis carolina female. Females have shorter wings that don't reach the end of their abdomen, making them virtually flightless. A male's wings may be shorter or longer. A female's abdomen is also "strongly widened" in the middle.

How lucky you are to be able to hand feed these birds! I have several, but they stay at least 10-feet away. I envy you! Nice photos, too.
