Nosy Komba is an island off the west coast of Madagascar near another island called Nosy be which is popular with tourists
Thank you for the positive ID Jakubko. I had a good look at the link and it's spot on!
This female was exhausted after mating with several males over a course of many hours so I was able to approach her to within a couple of metres without any risk as Fossa can be unpredictable at the best of times. Kirindy is the best place in Madagascar to reliably see the islands top predator especially October/November which is the peak of the mating season for this animal. It's also one of the best reserves for nocturnal mammals.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to identify this Hawk moth. I'm amazed that after only one day you've come up with an answer. I hate having seen something on my travels and not knowing what it's name is so I'm very happy. I've googled the name you gave and have been reading all about it.
This site rocks!
Thanks Antonio
This is a really great site which i'll be spending lots of time on, it was recommended to be by someone working at the London Natural history museum as a place to help me I.D the Hawk moth.
Thanks also to everyone else for your helpfull comments

It's hard to get an idea of scale from the photos but it looks very much like a photo I took of Uroplatus Giganteus which is the largest of the Leaf-tailed geckos found in Madagascar
