That looks almost like a Japanese Beetle. If its big, with a shiny green back and stinks when you hold it, its definitely the Japanese Beetle.
Chupacabras dont live in North Texas ;)
I'll see if I can find a photo from another angle.
I thought it was a woodpecker at first. He was trying to make a nest in some palm trees.
After some searching, I believe this is a Katydid Nymph.

Its probably a Common snapping turtle; Scientific name: Chelydra serpentina. They are very abundant in Tx.
