Wow, that is cool. From the first picture I was going to recommend looking at philodendrons, but with no leaves I have no idea. Looking forward to the answer!

Thanks Jellis and Lenny!
I'll take responsibility for the car door this time! Lesson learned.

How close were you? What do you shoot with?

I would love to learn about your photography!

I love that little bird! Your photographs are very inspiring and it's nice to read about how you know these animals so well.

TracyB Great Spotted Woodpecker

Thank you very much, Malcolm! I've changed the identification. The second link you posted cannot be a Great Spotted Woodpecker, since its head is entirely capped in red, but the first link most certainly is.

I left my description up saying that it's possible there's a little Darjeeling Woodpecker blood involved, since there are reports that the two species' interbreeding is not uncommon; but I've changed the overall identification to be more helpful and accurate!

Malcolm, I've been looking at this for a very long time (thanks to your link) and have finally decided that it might be a hybrid. Interested to hear your thoughts, thank you!

Going with Great Egret because the line on its face behind the bill extends backward far past the eye.

Do excuse me, Marc! I meant to say accidentally placed into the "Mammals of Qinghai" mission. It is a lovely photo. Also, I've started reptiles/amphibians of Qinghai, and insects of Qinghai, missions if you have good spottings for those.

This has been misplaced into the "Birds of Qinghai" mission
