A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Definitely not a boa, but a python. You can tell by the big scales on their head, the pit organs above the mouth, the round snout etc. Must be a rarely kept one. I don't know the species, sorry.
This is a subadult female of Phyllocrania paradoxa, the Ghost Mantis! Did you find this in the wild? This is an African species and not native to Italia. They are keps as pets in Europe.
I'm glad to help, but this is not Carausius from India. I keep a Malaysian Phasmid at home with the name Diesbachia tamyris, which looks very similar to this animal on your picture. So I figure, they are closely related but I don't know what species this is, i can just tell you the Tribe they are both in.
martinl: I see, I did not look up their habitat in Australia before posting. Extatosoma are popular pets all around the world an I have kept them too.
Very nice find of a subadult female.
Looks like Acanthops sp. (Mantodea) or a related Genus.
This is a Praying Mantis and not a Phasmid.
This is a Praying Mantis (Mantodea) and not a Stick Insect (Phasmatodea).
