Thank you. After looking at more pictures of it online I'm pretty sure it is Chinese privet (Ligustrum sinense).

The airboat tour guide was very observant when locating the babies. Mama didn't show her self thankfully.

No there's nothing wrong with it. Loons aren't the greatest at walking since they spend all their time swimming and diving. When they need to rest to they beach themselves on land. People commonly think they are injured since they won't always move when they are approached. Loons will hunt in various locations, lakes and oceans being their prime hunting grounds.
